For The Morning Coffee Drinkers – Let's Mix it Up.
Morning coffee queues in Sydney show that there is a liquid addiction still going on. I am definitely a big admirer of coffee, the flavour, the scent, and that wonderful energetic high and inspiration that it sends through my body is bliss. I am also aware however that it is acidic and dehydrating, which are key facts to acknowledge and respect considering we wake up with dehydrated bodies from a night's sleep, so I don't believe coffee first thing in the morning is smart for our bodies and general energy levels.
The morning really sets up the rest of your day energetically, so ideally starting with some ambient purified water is vital in both hydrating the body and helping to kick start the digestive system.
My idea for a morning coffee-alternative is a big glass of homemade almond mylk blended with 1 tbsp of raw cocoa powder (*add 2 medjool dates if you really need a sweet fix). Cocoa powder contains a subtle amount of caffeine, as well as tasting wonderful. Almonds are the only nut that are alkalising to the body and a good source of magnesium which is essential to our muscle development and nervous system – this helps to balance out cocoa which is acidic and caffeinated, although not as extreme as coffee is to the body.
